Pacific Golf tie: Europe lead Asia

European Amateur Champion Ashley Chesters of England and compatriot Ryan Evans guided Europe to a narrow 6-4 lead over Asia-Pacific on the first day of Sir Michael Bonallack Golf Trophy.

The 24-year-old Ashley and Ryan won both morning and afternoon matches on day one of the three-day Ryder Cup style amateur match which will be played between 12 member teams from Europe and team Asia-Pacific.

Team Europe, which trailed Asia-Pacific by 2 to 3 after the morning session won four out of five matches in the afternoon session on the opening day which saw very high quality golf being played at Karnataka Golf Association.

In the morning session, Chesters and Evans beat the fancied and powerful Australian duo of Geoff Drakeford and Taylor MacDonald by a comprehensive margin of 5 holes up with only 4 to play or 5 & 4.

The English duo never looked back after being tied for the first five holes, and then helped by three consecutive birdies on sixth, seventh, eighth to take a 3-up lead at the halfway stage. Evans rode on top.
