PAC looks into CAG report on CWG

The Public Accounts Committee of Delhi Assembly has started examining the CAG report on the Commonwealth Games which had indicted Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and her government for alleged irregularities in implementation of various projects.
In its first meeting on Tuesday, a number of senior officials from Public Works Department deposed before the nine-member PAC headed by senior Congress member Prahlad Singh Sawhney.
Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri has already written a letter to Murli Manohar Joshi, chairman of Public Accounts Commitee of Parliament, informing him about the PAC of Delhi Assembly starting the exercise.
The PAC of Parliament has also been examining the CAG report on the Commonwealth Games and has already summoned senior officials of Home Ministry, Sports Ministry, NDMC, Delhi Police and MTNL who were involved in implementation of various projects linked to the Commonwealth Games.
The CAG in its report tabled in Parliament in August last year had indicted Dikshit for her alleged ‘active involvement’ in the grant of a work incurring a loss of Rs 30 crores and slammed her government for ‘irregularities’ in various projects including streetlighting and streetscaping.
Delhi government had, however, stoutly rejected the allegations, saying the chief minister never ‘intervened to favour’ any firm and all due processes were followed in finalising the contracts.
Sources said the PAC of Delhi Assembly will finalise its report by the middle of next year. Assembly elections are due in Delhi in November next year. They said the first meeting of the PAC deliberated on alleged irregularities committed in construction of the Thyagraj stadium.
