‘The Centre and Delhi government should ensure that people of all categories having ration cards should get sugar and other food grains regularly. The government should abolish various categories of ration cards and only two categories should be introduced to supply all the essential commodities,’ said Satish Upadhyay. He also added that ‘bar code’ system should be followed on ration cards to avoid their misuse.
Putting forward his vision on PDS, Upadhyay said the first category of ration cards should be for the poor people to whom all the commodities should be supplied at subsidized rates and the other category should be such to whom subsidy should be only 50 percent but supply of essential commodities should be ensured. All the old ration shops for the poor should be re-started and Kendriya Bhandar shops should be opened in all the unauthorised colonies and middle class colonies of Delhi where subsidised food items be supplied to the people on ration cards, suggested Upadhyay.
Coming down heavily on the previous Congress government in Delhi, he blamed the 15 years of Sheila Dikshit rule behind the complete ruin of the ration distribution under PDS.
‘The general ration card holders were getting wheat, rice, sugar in Delhi till the year 1998,’ said Upadhyay. He demanded the government to immediately start supply to ration card holders of all the categories in Delhi besides other food grains. He advocated the abolish of various other cards like Antyodaya Ann Yojna, Annashri Yojna, Yellow Cards, Blue Cards, Red Cards, introduced in last 15 years and also blamed AAP government for doing nothing to improve the system.
