Over half the country has received normal rain: IMD

Even as fear of drought looms large in some parts of the country, more than half of India has received normal rainfall while some regions in central and southern parts have got deficient rains so far.
According to the India Meteorological Department data, of the 36 <g data-gr-id="16">sub-divisions</g> across the country, 20 have received normal monsoon.
The data shows that 58 <g data-gr-id="18">per cent</g> of the country has received normal rainfall, 29 per cent witnessed <g data-gr-id="21">deficient</g> and 13 <g data-gr-id="19">perĀ </g>
<g data-gr-id="19">cent</g> excess.
Overall, a deficiency of nine per cent was recorded in the whole country. Among the four divisions, northwest received the most <g data-gr-id="24" style="color: #3b3b3b; font-size: 11px;">rains</g> with only two per cent lesser than the normal levels followed by a deficit of six per cent in the east and <g data-gr-id="23" style="color: #3b3b3b; font-size: 11px;">north east</g>, 11 per cent in central India and 20 per cent in southern peninsula.
In a positive sign, no sub-division has recorded "scanty" or "no-rain" precipitation.
