Over 4,000 deaths at Safdarjung, says Azad

There have been 4,135 deaths at Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital and 1,468 at AIIMS till June
this year.
Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Friday said that 4,135 deaths have taken place till June in Safdarjung Hospital with a death-patient ratio of 1:17.
The Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital registered 2,213 deaths till June 2013. In AIIMS, 1,468 deaths occurred till July 2013.
The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh registered 2,599 deaths up to July.
The minister informed the house that there were no incidents of negligence in treatment of patients in central government hospitals, AIIMS and JIPMER.
While in PGIMER there is a Medical Grievance Committee which looks into any complaint of deficiency in treatment, in JIPMER the institute conducts medical care review meeting on a weekly and monthly basis to discuss and analyse the cause of death and prevention, the minister said.
