Over 10,000 duplicate mobiles recovered, four arrested

In a major haul, more than 10,000 duplicate phones of well known brands were recovered and four persons arrested in this connection, police said on Friday.

The accused — Ravinder Pal Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Ranjeet Singh and Kirandeep Singh — were nabbed for assembling the duplicate phones.

At their instance, more than 10,000 duplicate/cloned mobile phones of different make and brands worth Rs 2 crore in retail market have been recovered from a godown in Matiala, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner (Crime). The arrests were made following a recent recovery of cloned (duplicate) phones from Lajpat Rai market. During the raid, SIM cards in the name of Ravinder Pal Singh were being used to check the phones. Working on this, the Crime Branch caught the four accused. Accused Kirandeep Singh along with his partner and cousin Inder Pal (absconding) used to import duplicate parts of mobile phones of different make and brands from China, said the officer.
