Over 1,000 fair price shops penalised in a year: Dept

Over thousands fair price shop holders have been penalised in the past one year following complaints received at the call centre established by Food and Supplies Department.

According to Delhi government officials, the helpline number 1967 and toll free number 1800110841, which were made operational in August last year, have received over three lakh calls till now.

People can seek information by making calls on the helpline numbers as well as make complaints against fair price shops for irregularities like non opening of shops, delivery of less quantity of food grains, overcharging, poor quality, misbehaviour, deficiency in services etc. ‘While majority of calls were made to seek information, the department also received more than 1,000 complaints,’ said SS Yadav, Food and Supplies Commissioner.
