Though the government scaled down the launch of its much hyped direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme, it is the opposition-ruled state governments that have shown keen interest in implementation of the scheme in their respective states.
'States like Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh want that direct cash transfer should also be implemented for schemes of state government' informed rural development minister Jairam Ramesh. The minister further said that Bihar government wanted to include Public
Distribution System (PDS) in DBT. Even finance minister P Chidamabarm, had earlier stated that no state government has opposed the scheme and in fact many state governments had shown their interest in implementing the schemes in respective states.
