The Leader of the Opposition in Delhi assembly, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, on Wednesday condemned the decision of the Delhi government to dissolve the Dharmarajan Committee, which was constituted to draft new Delhi Municipal CorporationAct (DMC), even before the Committee could submit its report.
Malhotra further condemned the decision of Delhi government to stop the payment of Rs 600 crore to three municipal corporations as promised.
According to Malhotra, the Delhi government had announced an aid of Rs1,800 crore to three municipal corporations for special Projects. However, now it has intimated that the amount would be only Rs 600 crore in total, instead of Rs 600 crore to each civic body. The special projects, pointed out Malhotra, would be suspended for want of funds. This will not only cause severe loss to the corporations but will also tantamount to breach of trust of the people.
He said in order to trifurcate the municipal into three separate units and to prepare their respective rules and also to review the rights of these muncipal corporations, a six -member Dharmarajan Committee was constituted in 2010. Malhotra demanded that the interim report of Dharmarajan Committee be placed before the house in the next session of the assembly. Malhotra blamed that the committee was crippled so that Delhi government could continue to usurp the powers of the municipal corporations.
