The satellite town Noida recorded a significant fall in the poll percentage in the by-poll of Noida assembly segment on Saturday. The polling was, however, peaceful except some minor incidents and allegations of booth capturing against husband of Samajwadi Party candidate and SP MLA Guddu Pandi by the rival Bharatiya Janata Party.
‘The polling percentage was recorded at around 30 per cent which may increase marginally in final tally,’ AV Rajamouli, district magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar. The poll percentage was over 28 per cent less than Lok Sabha elections held just three months back.
The poll percentage was by 3 pm was just 25 per cent, however, over double in the Lok Sabha polls. ‘It seems people know that their votes are not going to make any change in the government as it enjoys a huge majority so have lost enthusiasm to cast their votes,’ said NP Singh, president of Federation of Noida’s RWAs.
Meanwhile, BJP has filed written complaint against the SP MLA and husband of Noida MLA candidate of Samajwadi Party for hijacking over half a dozen polling booths in rural areas and also threatening a BJP booth worker at a polling station in sector 20.
SP has fielded Pandit’s wife Kajal Sharma while BJP has fielded Vimla Batham who are being considered close rivals as BSP is not contesting this time.
