Online solutions to diabetes must be examined with greater scrutiny: Doctors

New survey reveals 90% of Indian doctors’ advice that the internet serves as a tremendous source of information for patients, but 77% stated that regulatory bodies should play more active role in authentication and certification of information.

This survey conducted among patients and doctors in four cities, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad, called the ‘Perception and Practices in Management of Diabetes in India’, elicited some insights in terms of their reservations and the degree to which they can bank upon the information available on internet.

‘I would first advice diabetic patients not to get disheartened and rather look at this positively in a way as to initiate healthy lifestyle changes. Online solutions for diabetics do help save time, energy and above all effort. One should understand that apart from drugs (oral or insulin), a balanced healthy diet and exercise form the mainstay of treatment. It is not difficult, if we understand that by doing so we are also avoiding associated problems like hypertension and obesity said Dr. Charu  Sachdeva, senior consultant, Rockland Hospital.
