The unavailability of the online FIR service has translated into inconvenience for complainants. The purpose of making the FIR service available online was to make the life of the complainant easy as s/he is facilitated with the detailed copy of the complaint along with the updates of the investigation process.
When Millennium Post contacted Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat, he denied the allegations saying, ‘If the problem was genuine and the complainants were suffering, they would have reported the matter to us. But so far no complaint, neither from the general public nor from the police officials, has been received.’
A source in Delhi police said, ‘We are going through this problem for the past few months. It is basically a server problem, that is being looked at with the help of IT department.’ He added that during the IPL match-fixing scandal as per the order given by Neeraj Kumar, then Delhi police chief, online FIRs were made unavailable purposely. But after a month, the order was quashed and the FIR services were made available again.
