Online betting racket: Dharam Pal Yadav arrested under MCOCA Act

Delhi Police arrested Dharam Pal Yadav under MCOCA Act for running an online betting racket in the garb of a government authorised lottery system. Lodged in Dehradun Jail, Yadav has been brought to Delhi on Wednesday by the Delhi Police on Production Remand and has been charged under Sections of Delhi Gambling Act and IT Act.

According to a police official privy to the investigation, on the intervening night of August 26 and 27, 2015, cops of the Bhajanpura police station of the Northeast district had received a tip-off that a betting racket is running at a building in Bhajanpura. A raid was conducted and police arrested 14 persons including 4 juveniles were apprehended.

During interrogation, one of the accused Shahnawaz revealed that he used to lure innocent people to betting on the pretext of investing in the Government approved lottery system at behest of his bosses.

While there were three kingpins identified as Roshan Lal Verma, Amarnath Bajaj and Yogeshwar Dayal Sharma, they all used to report to Yadav. Highly placed sources said that Roshan Lal Verma has strong links with UP ex-Minister DP Yadav.  Sources also said that the nexus of the betting racket is spread in states like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

During interrogation and analysis of call detail records, cops traced down that the racket was primarily run by Dharam Pal Yadav, a UP politician-cum-gangster. He is father of Vikas Yadav, an accused in the murder of Nitish Katara in 2002.
