One SI, two other cops thrashed in separate incidents

Two persons were arrested for alleged rioting and attacking a police sub-inspector when the official went near the Khyber Pass area in North Delhi to investigate a case, on Sunday night.

The sub-inspector, Satveer, who is posted at the Majnu-ka-Tila police post, suffered injuries on his hand and had to be taken to a hospital. He was later discharged after treatment.

According to the police, a few locals in the area had allegedly created a ruckus regarding an alleged unauthorised construction case. When the sub-inspector reached the spot, he was surrounded by locals complaining about the issue and also alleged police connivance. When he refused to intervene, as police officials were instructed not to intervene in cases of unauthorised construction, some locals allegedly pounded upon him.

Later, some of them also allegedly tried to implicate the cop in a case of misbehaviour with some women present in the crowd and also shot a video of the incident.

“Later, two persons – identified as Manoj and Hardan, both relatives– were arrested and booked under Sections 147 (Punishment for rioting), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of IPC,” said Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).

They were presented before a city court on Monday, where the video clip was also taken cognizance of. They were later sent to judicial custody, a police official added.

Meanwhile, a Delhi Police constable and a Home Guard were allegedly beaten up by three persons,
who were in an inebriated state, at Central Delhi’s Ranjit Nagar area on the wee hours of Sunday.
The accused were identified as Subhash Yadav, Pawan Lal and Ajay Singh, all residents of Ranjit Nagar. They were riding a motorbike without wearing helmets and were performing stunts.

When the constable, Om Prakash, and the home guard, Ranveer, stopped them near the Patel Nagar-Naraina Road, the pillion rider allegedly abused the cop and the guard, and also allegedly tried to push them away. Later, one of them also allegedly slapped the constable and tore his clothes, said a police official.
