One of Polanski’s teenaged ‘victims’ writes memoir

Samantha Geimer, the former teen with whom Roman Polanski was convicted of having sex in 1977, is writing a memoir to tell her side of the story in the infamous Hollywood scandal.
Geimer, now 47, has bagged a deal by Atria Books to write The Girl: Emerging from the Shadow of Roman Polanski.
The book will deal with incident that forced Polanski to flee the country in 1978 after being sentenced for unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old, the Vanity Fair magazine reported.
‘I am more than “Sex Victim Girl”, a tag the media pinned on me... My friends in junior high, scolded by their parents to stay away from that girl, also labeled me. I offer my story now without rage, but with purpose to share a tale that in its detail will reclaim my identity. I have been dogged by tired thinking and easy tags nearly my entire life. I am not a stick figure. I know what it is like to be a woman and a victim in the realest possible way,’ Geimer said in a statement.
Polanski, who has directed films like The Chinatow and Rosemary’s Baby was accused of plying Geimer with alcohol and part of a Quaalude during a photo shoot for French Vogue, which took place at Jack Nicholson’s house, before allegedly raping the teen model.
He spent 42 days in prison for a psychiatric evaluation before fleeing to France after a judge threatened additional jail time. Polanski continues to make films with Hollywood stars while staying out of the US.
In 2009, he agreed to pay USD 500,000 to Geimer as part of a civil settlement. Both the parties have sought to close the case to move on with their lives.
The case has also been the focus of an Emmy-winning documentary, Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired by Marina Zenovich. She is planning to make a sequel to tell the US’s attempt to bring Polanski back to resolve the case after 35 years.
