Over 25 Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited’s distribution area came out on Sunday in support of the Earth Hour, WWF’s global campaign for raising awareness on climate change, and voluntarily switched off their lights for one hour from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
It resulted in a saving of 50 MW power during the Earth Hour in Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited’s distribution network of north and north west Delhi.
‘The global call to switch off lights as a mark of support to switch to renewable energy saw an overwhelming response from our consumers too in north and north west Delhi. We also appeal to all our consumers to make it a habit to switch off all non essential lights in their homes and offices not just during the Earth Hour but in their daily course of life and also to adopt renewable sources of power wherever possible,’ said a Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited spokesperson.
Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited had undertaken a massive awareness campaign through distribution of posters, banners; website, SMS and through direct engagement of RWA bodies to spread the message about Earth Hour in its network.
