One held for setting wife on fire, another for asking dowry

A 38-year-old women was allegedly burnt to death by her husband when she denied him money for alcohol in Kishanganj area falling under Gulabi Bagh police station in North district.

The victim, identified as Darshani Devi, is survived by her husband Virender Singh and three children. She reportedly exchanged heated arguments with her husband before the incident took place.

Her husband was demanding money for liquor. When she refused, Singh allegedly set her on fire. She was rushed to a nearby hospital from where doctors referred her to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital.

Police have arrested Virender on the basis of the dying declaration of the deceased.

Meanwhile, a day after a 30-year-old woman reportedly fell off the seventh floor of Ring Road Mall located in Rohini area, her husband was apprehended for allegedly demanding dowry.

Garima jumped to death in mysterious circumstances from the seventh floor of Ring Road mall on Tuesday evening. Her husband, Padam Vajpayee, who runs a medical shop at fifth floor of the mall was allegedly harassing her for dowry.

“On Tuesday evening she came to the mall and fought with her husband. Vajpayee has been arrested after the magistrate inquiry,” said police officer.

Police received the call around 8:30 pm. Her parents living in Paschim Vihar were informed about the incident. The case has been registered at Rohini South police station and investigation is on.
