One held for murder of woman, child in Rohini

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Friday for killing a woman and her five-year-old daughter in outer Delhi’s Rohini on Thursday. The accused, Nadeem, reportedly killed the two in a bid to rob them.

The victims, Yasmin and her daughter Sufia, were found dead with their throats slit around 2.15 pm on Thursday, by neighbours who saw smoke coming out from the house.

‘The accused tried to burn Yasmin’s body after the murder. She was found lying in a pool of blood on the floor while Sufia was found dead on the bed,’ said a police officer.

The crime team was summoned at the spot for inspection but no eye-witness was found. During the course of investigation, husband of the deceased, Aslam, said a mobile phone and some cash was robbed from the house.

The team then developed information regarding features of the suspect, who was seen moving in the locality at the time of incident.

‘The suspect was identified as Nadeem, who worked for a short period with the husband of deceased and was apprehended from his house. Finally, he confessed his crime,’ said a police officer.

He robbed an amount of Rs 1,25,000 and a Samsung mobile phone of the deceased. A knife, the weapon of offence, a blood stained pair of trousers, jacket and shoes were also recovered. A motorcycle used in crime was seized.

With an intention to steal some money, Nadeem went to Aslam’s house. When Yasmin went to the bathroom, he stole money from an almirah. Sufia witnessed the incident.

So, he covered her mouth and slit her throat with a knife. Then he waited for Yasmin to come out. Nadeem then strangulated Yasmin with a wire, and slit her throat with the same knife. Afterwards,  he poured kerosene oil on her and tried to burn the body.
