One held for forging BJP MP’s signature

A travel agent forged the signature of senior BJP MP Shahnawaz Hussain, and used his original letterhead, to get a train ticket confirmed. The agent is still absonding but his employee, who was also involved in the fraud, was arrested from Jama Masjid on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as travel agents Gurfan [25] and Rafiulla, who run a travel agency located in Matia Mahal area in Central Delhi.  Gurfan has been arrested but Rafiulla is absconding.

‘On 5 June, Rajesh Verma, Hussain’s private secretary, lodged a complaint to police about the incident. Reportedly, the ticket was confirmed through MP’s emergency quota and later it was submitted to the Ambala’s Divisional Railway Manager [DRM]’, said a senior police official.

According to the complaint, the PNR number was revealed but as it was an e-ticket, the agent could not be identified. The seat numbers that were assigned, however, were revealed.

Sources told Millennium Post that when tickets are bought under emergency quota in the name of the MPs, the Railway officials make anonymous calls to the number given to confirm that the information given is bonafide.

So, a call was made at Hussain’s office and they came to know that he did not book a ticket. A trap was then laid to apprehend the accused. Police asked the Railway staff to confirm the ticket, and let the passengers travel.

The official said as per the plan, a police team was send to Nizamuddin Railway Station. From there, two passengers were then  intercepted.

The passengers were identified as Abu Hamza, a resident of Haz Manzil, Turkman Gate and Mohammad Umar, a resident of Azamgarh. They were sitting in S3 coach on seat no 35 and 36. Both of them said they had booked the ticket through a travel agent, who gave them e-tickets, reserving two seats in Golden Temple Train. The agent had even asked for extra money to confirm the tickets.

‘Umar had come to Delhi for treatment his brother. He had approached Gurfan and Rafiulla, who provided the tickets for Rs 500 each, Rs 150 more than the actual cost of the ticket,’ said police.

The passengers then identified the travel agents.  During interrogation, Gurfan said  Rafiulla often visited Hussain’s office. One day, he stole the letterhead from the office and started misusing it.
