But Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, BJP’s CM candidate Harsh Vardhan and Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal spent the penultimate day trying to appear ‘calm’.
All the three major players are on tenterhooks as the results might swing in any party’s favour. A number of post-poll surveys have given the BJP an edge over the ruling Congress and the AAP.
Undoubtedly, the exit polls are adding to Dikshit’s worries because she’s almost on the verge of losing 15 years of her ‘Delhi Sultanate’. On the other hand, a calmer Harsh Vardhan spent his time engaged in family activities and he was photographed dicing peas at his residence. He also attended a party meeting and guided BJP workers, deputing them at various counting centres.
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal returned to Delhi late in the evening on Saturday after attending a meditation camp in Jaipur. Holding party executive meeting on the eve of vote counting, he instructed the party workers to be present at the counting centres across the city. ‘We are gearing up for victory and preparing for celebration at the party office in New Delhi,’ said AAP members.
However, Dikshit is not yet ready to believe exit polls. Instead, she opted to keep herself busy in meeting with Delhi government chief secretary and her principal secretary, clearing pending (controversial?) files. ‘We don’t work on the basis of surveys. I would say respectfully, I don’t believe in these surveys,’ Dikshit said. ‘Our work is done, when the counting is done, we will see the results,’ she added. The thrice-victorious Delhi CM who’s pinning her hopes on a fourth consecutive term, appeared relaxed at her residence, at times meeting and spending time with other Congress candidates.
