On marriage eve, woman jumps to death

A day before her marriage, a 29-yearold woman committed suicide by jumping off from an upper floor of a mall in west Delhi on late Saturday night. The incident was reported to the police at around 11.30 pm, when the victim, identified as Shiwani, jumped from the top floor of the TDI mall in

west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden. Surprisingly, she had got engaged on the day of the incident and the ‘Mehndi Rasm’ was being performed at her residence. Shiwani was a resident of Vikaspuri and was slated to get married on Sunday. Before the ‘Mehndi Rasm’ began, she left her residence telling her mother that she had some urgent work. She promised her that she would return home soon. The family called the police when Shiwani was out for very long. In the meantime, the police received a call regarding a girl committing suicide. The victim’s family identified the body. Shiwani’s family members

are being quizzed to find out if she was threatened or put under any kind of pressure to get married.
