On birthday rally, Maya positions party for upcoming polls

‘We have to go before the people to seek support from all sections of society-- backwards, Dalits, Muslims and upper caste-- so that BSP emerges as a power house after the elections,’ she said. She did not directly ask party cadre to make her the next prime minister.

Addressing a mammoth ‘Vishal Savdhan Maha-rally’ at Ramdevi rally ground here, Mayawati also warned the cadre that there could be a conspiracy to nominate a Dalit as the prime ministerial candidate by opposition parties.

Targeting the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, she said her party will not allow a communal person to become the PM of India. ‘Modi’s decision to construct a statue of Vallabhbhai Patel is a political stunt to get the votes of a particular caste,’ she said, adding that Modi is trying to implement the Gujarat agenda in the country.

Attacking AAP, the BSP president said, ‘The Delhi CM has backtracked from his decision to hold Janata Darbar and the promises made during the elections were also implemented in a wrong manner.’ She also did not spare the Congress and the Samajwadi Party. ‘The present UPA government has failed to prevent corruption and inflation and if the Congress had fulfilled even 50 per cent of its poll manifesto during the past 60 years, the condition of the poor would have been different,’ she said while attacking the Congress decision to seek peoples’ opinion on poll manifesto for the next Lok Sabha elections.

Reiterating her demand for Presidents’ rule in UP, she said the SP government had turned the state into a ‘Crime Pradesh’ and people should teach them a lesson by supporting the BSP in the elections. Mayawati, in her record two-hour long speech, thanked the people for coming to attend the rally in such biting cold and appealed to them to put their entire energy for the success of the party in the coming elections.
