Officials on 4 Dec poll duty cast votes

While the national capital is gearing up for the upcoming Delhi assembly election on 4 December, a section of its voters began casting their votes from Monday onwards.

These voters include 30,000 Delhi police personnel, who will be assigned with the task of assuring free and fair polls on 4 December. Approximately a total of 75,000 voters involved in the conducting of polls in various capacities, will cast their votes from Monday onwards.

According to a senior police official, who exercised his democratic franchise on Monday,  voters subjected to preventive detention (personnel on 4 December election duty) can cast their vote between 25- 30 November. This exercise will be carried out district-wise for all such employees.

There are around 84,000 Delhi police personnel. Among them, approximately 30,000 have been registered as Delhi voters and they can cast their votes in 12 centres, which have been set up for them. As per Rule 18 of Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, the electors under preventive detention, are entitled to cast their votes by post.
