The situation veered out of control because the police team were caught off guard. The Circle Officer of Mathura city, Chakrapani Tripathy told Millennium Post just after a day of the mishap, "We were not prepared."
The CO city also said “We got the official order to evacuate the land few months back, after the former Bar Council president Vijaypal Singh Tomar filed a PIL against this splinter group in Allahabad High Court. Then an official order was released." He also said, “Those squatters, who pretended to be satyagrahis, were trained well with arms and they were carrying more advanced weapons than us."
He also said, “15-16 cases had been registered earlier as they used to terrify locals." Tripathy also added, "We could never imagine that they would kill our SP and SHO. We are only trained to serve people, not to kill them. There were around 1500-2000 people with arms and we were few.”
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also admitted the 'lapses' in the operation to evict these splinter groups. Even the suspicious death of cult kingpin Ram Vriksh Yadav and his proximity with SP top brass have also put the UP government in a spot. Significantly, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday asked for a CBI probe. A delegation of Aam Admi Party comprising top leaders, met Singh with the same demand on Monday.
