Officers make light of Jung’s public hearing exercise

He has issued instructions that 11.00 am to 1.00 pm every day except Wednesday be declared a no-meeting period and during this time, all principal secretaries, secretaries and HODs are available in their offices to meet the public.

This instruction was issued by the L-G on Tuesday for all principal secretaries and HODs. Najeeb Jung visited the Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday and directed bureaucrats to meet people and carry forward the development work.

A few people came to the secretariat with their problems and the hope to meet bureaucrats, but lower staff members turned a blind eye towards them. They were found wandering on the ground floor of the building to find officers who could guide them. Interestingly, the chief secretary came to his office after the scheduled time of public hearings got over and so did the heath secretary.

‘It was the first day and things are in process to make the secretariat more citizen-friendly. In a few days, citizen can walk in and there will be a held desk to guide them,’ said an IAS officer.
