Celebrating 100 years of existence of New Delhi, Indian Ocean, the iconic band rocked Delhi at Hard Rock Cafe on Friday. This celebration was double, as the band’s last album is also about a place in Delhi, where memories were made and inspirations were drawn for their music, as the title of their album, 16/330 Khajoor Road reads.
Although they call themselves a fusion band, it had elements of various genres as metal, goth, classic and it was hard to define the music, except be swayed by it.
The concert began around 10pm and went on until after midnight. The audience was so engaged and mesmerised by their performance that there were repeated cries for an ‘encore’.
The concert kicked off with the latest number, Darte Ho, from their new album, 16/330 Khajoor Road.
The crowd ever since the band’s first song kept asking for their most popular song Kandisa, which was played towards the end. In a gesture to the crowd , Rahul Ram smirked and said candidly, “Kabhi na kabhi toh hoga (it will happen sooner or later)” in response to the crowd’s demand.
Keeping the audience
engaged, Amit Kilam played the gubgubi in a jugalbandi with Rahul Ram on his
guitar.
The band belted out popular numbers like Bhor, Bandeh, Jhini, Bondhu, Hille Le, Ma Rewa and Kandisa.
They also introduced new artistes, one on vocals and one on tabla during the performance. The void left by the band’s founder and member, late Asheem Chakrabarty, was filled by new friends and music.
Rohit Lal, a freelance photographer who was a part of the crowd, proclaimed his admiration for the band.
“I am looking forward to hearing them perform the songs of their new album,” said Rohit.
Indian Ocean lead Rahul Ram and Amit Kilam along with the founding member Sushmit Sen thanked the crowd and dedicated a song to them.
After the concert wrapped up, the band members made themselves accessible to the public for photos.
But for all those who missed the power packed performance, here’s one more chance to hear the band perform in the Capital.
“Reminder for the animal rights rally at Jantar Mantar tomorrow, 23rd April: 5.30-7 p.m. Aao, aao!! Aur doosron ko bhi batao!!” Rahul Ram posted on Facebook Sunday.
