Nursery admissions open, parents queue up for forms

A concerned father, Sanjay Gupta, who had taken a day off from work to collect nursery admission forms from various schools said, ‘It is a very tough job to stand and wait outside the school to buy forms and submit them. I am applying in at least 10 schools as there is no guarantee that my ward will get admission into one school because the rush for applications have increased.

The admission process for nursery classes has started and the last date for submission of admission applications has been fixed for 5 February. Admissions will close on 31 March.

RK Sharma, principal, Ahlcon Public School, Mayur Vihar, said, ‘Schools which are selling only over-the-counter forms for general and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)/Disadvantaged category witnessed some rush. On the very first day we have sold 600 to 700 forms for 180 seats.’

Nootan Rajput, a worried mother said, ‘Now, I will apply to at least 15 schools. I have just seen the points scheme and realised that with the inclusion of points for neighbourhood criteria, my daughter can easily get 70 points, as we live within the 8 km radius from all 15 schools.’

Many parents sought help from friends and relatives to collect forms from all over town as they were planning to apply to as many schools. Many parents, returned disappointed on the first day as the counter closed at its scheduled time.

Shalini Gupta, a concerned mother waiting outside DAV Public School, Jasola Vihar, said ‘It is raining, so I didn’t expect such a long queue for forms. I could not get the form today and will return tomorrow.’

Father Babu Wargis, principal, Don Bosco School, located at Alaknanda, in Delhi, said, ‘We are offering 180 seats in nursery, and 746 forms have already been sold.’ NC Jindal Public school, Punjabi Bagh, has sold 750 forms for 200 seats. Air Force Baal Bharti, Lodhi Road reported the sale of 100 forms for 100 seats.

According to Directorate of Education, each school will ensure that applications are made available to all applicants till the last date of submission, which is 5 February, 2014.

The state government’s education department said that the date for displaying the first list of selected candidates, including Economic Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged group category, will be on 28 February.
