Nursery admissions: Long queues on the last day for submitting forms

‘We have received more than 4,500 applications in General Category and more than 1,000 applications in the Economic Weaker Section (EWS) category, against a total of 240 seats, available’ said MI Hussain, principal of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road.

Counters for submitting forms in many schools were opened at around 8:30 am in the morning and continued till 2 pm. In popular schools, the numbers of applications were much higher than the number of seats available.

Usha Rao, principal, Laxman Public School, Huaz Khas, said, ‘We had allowed the counters to remain open till 2 pm in the afternoon and let the parents enter and summit the forms. Parents had a very hard time on the last day.’

‘Against 125 seats available, we received 3,500 applications in the general category and 3,200 in EWS category’, she added. In many schools submission of forms will go on till midnight, through the online process.

For example, Bal Bharti Public School, Pusha Road, has received 5,200 in the General Category and 1,700 in EWS, against the 368 seats available. The schools have to display the first list of selected candidates, including Economic Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group category on 28 February.
