Nursery admissions for poor, disadvantaged kids to go online

Applications for admission to entry level classes for the economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged group (DG) will be made online, the Delhi government announced on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said people can fill the form online by visiting Delhi government websites from January 1 to January 22.

The first list of admission to nursery classes in various private schools will be announced by computerised draw on February 15, he said.

There are 27,000 seats available in EWS and DG category at entry level classes in 1,150 private schools.

“Government has made entire admission application process online and centralised, which will reduce corruption and bring transparency in nursery admission process,” Sisodia said.

He added now the people will not make any more round of the schools.

“We will ask our MLAs to spread awareness about this move of the government,” he said.

Sisodia also announced that Delhi is hosting National School Games from January 2 to 9 where 15,000 sports students across the country are to participate under 22 sports category.

The schools run by minority institutions and those running on provisional certificates will not come under the ambit of the online process.

Till now, the government has just been issuing a common form and monitoring the draw-of-lots. The rest of the process used to be managed by schools. In an online system, however, candidates will be allotted seats and the admission process will be centralised.

“The computerised lottery under the online process will not only put an end to complaints against irregularities in manual draw of lots, it will give equal chance to each applicant as per given rules,” he said.

Delhi government’s Directorate of Education (DoE) notified the schedule for admission to entry level classes in private schools under the two categories on December 29.

“We are happy that Delhi is hosting the National School Games from January 2 to January 9. It will encourage the students to do better in sports,” he said.

The opening ceremony of the sporting event will be held at Chhatrasal stadium on January 2. Last year, the students of Delhi had won 334 gold medals and 175 silver medals in National School Games, said the official. “As a host, we are paying special emphasis on providing best facilities for boarding and lodging to players and officials. For this purpose, 41 schools and sports complexes of Directorate of Education have been earmarked,” added the official.
