NTPC adds 2,225 mw capacity in 2015-16

State-run power producer NTPC has added 2,255 mw capacity this fiscal, taking its total electricity generation capability to 46,653 mw. NTPC started the financial year by commissioning all the four units of 200 mw each of Koldam hydro electric project in Himachal Pradesh within a span of 75 days by June 2015. With this project, located on the embankment on the Sutlej river, NTPC made its entry into the hydro power space. 

In June too, NTPC commissioned a 250 mw unit of Bongaigaon thermal power plant in Kokrajhar district in Assam. The company also commissioned Unit-13 of 500 mw at its Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station in Madhya Pradesh in August 2015. Later in the month, the company’s installed capacity increased to 45,798 mw after it commissioned a 250 mw Unit-I of Nabinagar Thermal Power Station of Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company (a subsidiary of NTPC). Besides, it also commissioned units at Kanti project in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar and Mauda plant in Nagpur district of Maharashtra, among other projects.

In the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17), NTPC added 9,639 MW, making it the company’s highest capacity addition in a Plan period. In the last Plan period, it added 9,610 mw capacity.
