National Student Union of India, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Unit has started the non-violent ‘occupation-movement’ to take over guest houses, transit hostels and under-utilised spaces of the university, keeping in view the unprecedented hostel and accommodation crisis at the university.
Amrish Ranjan Pandey, NSUI spokesperson said, 'The university started increasing the intake of students every year and the situation has reached a point that now, out of around 2,000 new admissions, more than 1,300 students are without any accommodation facility. NSUI has extended an open invitation to students without hostel accommodation to reach Aravali guest house to reclaim the students’ right to decent and dignified academic and residential environment and support.'
