‘NSUI tried to spoil JNU culture with money, muscle power’

After an impressive performance in Delhi University Student Union Elections and an overwhelming victory in elections for the central panel posts of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union, the All India Students Association (AISA) has alleged that National Students Union of India (NSUI) tried to spoil the culture of JNU through use of money and by offering liquor, but couldn’t succeed.

AISA national president Sandeep Kumar alleged, ‘We have bagged four seats at the central panel in JNUSU elections based on our hard work and not because of money power or muscle power.’

‘NSUI must understand JNU’s 40-year-old culture of debates and discussion on important issues. They make use of money power and distribute liquor because they can’t enter into meaningful debates,’ Kumar added.

NSUI spokesperson Amrish Ranjan Pandey, however, countered Kumar’s views saying, ‘We never use such dirty tactics. We don’t encourage the politics of bloodshed. We only follow secular aspects of politics.’

AISA swept all four top seats in the JNUSU elections. Its candidate Akbar Chawdhary won the president’s seat with a margin of 1,317 votes over his nearest rival from the DSF. Chawdhary won 1,977 votes.  Anubhuti Agnes Bara won the vice-president’s seat with a margin of 1,052 votes. The post of JNUSU’s general secretary was won by Sandeep Saurav with a margin of 953 votes. Sarfaraz Hamid won the joint secretary’s post with defeating his nearest rival by a margin of 59 votes.
