NSS data shows slight growth in jobs: Minister

Employment in India witnessed an increase by an annual rate of 0.5 per cent as per the National Sample Survey results for 2009-10 and 2011-12 with the GDP growing by 7.8 per cent during the same period, Parliament was informed on Monday. ‘The estimates of GDP and employment are released by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) and NSS, respectively, of the ministry of statistics and programme implementation. ‘As per the NSS survey results for the year 2009-10 and 2011-12, employment increased from 46.5 crore to 47.4 crore, registering an annual growth rate of 0.5 per cent, and GDP grew by 7.8 per cent during the same period,’ minister of state for labour, Vishnu Deo Sai, told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
