NPPA powers: Sharad alleges move aimed at mollifying US companies

‘After the government’s move to curb the powers of NPPA, the prices of drugs of AIDS, cancer, tuberculosis, cardiac diseases have gone up manifold hitting the poor patients adversely,’ alleged Yadav, who was a cabinet minister in first NDA government.
Giving details about the increased prices of life saving drugs, JD (U) chief said, ‘The price of drugs of cancer which was sold at Rs 5,009 has risen to Rs 11,500, while the price of medicine used in treatment of cardiac ailment has touched Rs 1,615 mark which was available for just Rs 92 prior to NPPA’s power withdrawal order. The increased prices are beyond the reach of the common man.’
Yadav further added that there are about four crore diabetic patients, 4.7 crore people suffering from
cardiac-related ailments, 22 lakh TB patients and 11 lakh cancer patients in the country.
While hitting out at the Narendra Modi, Yadav alleged that the government had seized power of NPPA just before Modi’s America visit to mollify the pharma companies of the US.
Yadav alleged that the government was waiting for the assembly elections in some states to get over after which it was going to ‘announce certain decisions which will further hit the poor people’.
