Now, women can also run ration shops

The Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department of Delhi government is planning to allot Fair Price Shop (FPS) licenses to women’s self help groups. “The aim is to provide livelihood opportunities to women residing in extremely vulnerable pockets and is registered with Mission Convergence.
“Also more habitations have come up in north-west districts, south-east and north-east districts of the national Capital where there is lack of FPS and the department has joined hands with Mission Convergence and is in the process of identifying the women’s self help groups who are capable of running the FPS,” said secretary-cum-commissioner of the Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department S S Yadav.
He said the initiative will help prevent pilferage of food grains meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) as it will be run by them and also help in the identification process. Besides, the women’s self help groups who are registered with Mission Convergence, an advertisement has also been issued inviting application for new FPS, wherein preference will be given to the women’s help groups.
