The cultural fests organised in many colleges of North Campus in Delhi University is a big draw for many and is eagerly awaited for by many students. Organising such events, however, has its challenges but these challenges are resulting in new trends being witnessed like having start-ups as sponsors in times when getting sponsorship is becoming a challenge.
Ahyuday Harsh of Hindu college says, “Easy money has stopped flowing and finding sponsors has now become a challenge. In Hindu we have 10 events in a year and each event has its audience. We have therefore started working on our advertising strategy through means of social media, also since many big companies have become reluctant in sponsoring our events, many start up companies like OYO rooms are coming in and supporting us.”
Harsh also added that getting renowned personalities is a difficult process, in such cases you have create a star value with effective marketing skills, Harsh gave an example of the star speaker being Varun Gandhi in the recently concluded Vakthvya (Perspective) event, that saw various renowned personalities from different fields
The same sentiment was echoed by Prakhyat, marketing organiser of Renaissance fest at Kirori Mal College. Prakhyat said: “Even though we have a two-year contract with Coca Cola India, we are looking for more sponsors and have approached many automotive and digital companies.” With regards to Renaissance that is expected from March 9-1, Prakhyat said, “Performence of Sunidhi Chauhan, bike ride festival and a fashion show is all been thought upon.”
Nitasha Dabar of Miranda House who is in charge of organising the cultural fest to be held from March4-5 said, “We often get in a rat race of calling a star for our fests and this results in escalation of costs, we are thinking of creating a Delhi Haat kind of environment this time in our fest. When you have a proper budget and planning in place you are able to convince your sponsors effectively.”
