Now, Paswan figures on Ranjit Sinha’s dubious ‘guest list’

The disclosure regarding Paswan meeting Sinha has put the ruling NDA government in a situation of major embarrassment. It has been learnt that the daily entry register maintained at 2, Janpath, the official residence of Sinha, mentions the name of Paswan along with one Mithlesh (whose identity is still not clear) as a regular visitors at his house. As per the logbook, both of them had visited Sinha’s house on 16 March in a vehicle with registration number (DL-3C-BD-7216). They stayed at CBI house for almost an hour.

The CBI is investigating Paswan’s role in the Bokaro Steel Plant recruitment scam, which it unearthed in January this year. In February, the agency claimed that they have evidences that Paswan issued letters of recommendations to a section of aspiring candidates for the recruitment at the plant.

Paswan joined hands with the BJP when he was about to be questioned in February by the CBI sleuths.

‘The meeting between Paswan and Sinha happened nearly 16 days after he joining the NDA. And till date Paswan has not been questioned by the CBI,’ sources said.

Many feel that the timing of his visit to Sinha’s residence is crucial as it happen just a little over three weeks before the Lok Sabha elections were scheduled to take place. The CBI had raided some 30 places in January in connection with this job recruitment scam. The former tourism minister Subodh Kant Sahay, who is also under the agency’s scanner, had met Sinha at his residence on 11 and 13 February.

The CBI was investigating Sahay’s alleged connection with SKS Ispat and Power Limited, against which it registered three cases in August in connection with the coal scam. His brother Sudhir Kant Sahay was an executive director on the company’s board. Interestingly, the CBI has neither named Sahay nor his brother in the FIRs registered last month. The coal blocks were de-allocated by the government on the recommendation of the Inter-Ministerial Group.

The other influential persons who had visited 2-Janpath and being investigated by the agency are Congress MP Vijay Darda, his brother Mahendra Darda and Mahendra Nahata the MD of Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited (HFCL).
