DTC officials said that the finalisation of bids are on the cards as talks are on with few companies for implementation.
The project is aimed to plug the holes in DTC’s existing revenue collection system, as well as be the first step towards an automated fare collection system that would include Delhi Metro too. It will also help in rationalising the routes.
According to DTC officials, the machines, will be installed near the conductor’s seat.
The passengers will have to swipe their smart cards by mentioning their destination on it. As smart cards will be recharged at various DTC centres, the users are not required to purchase tickets.
The cards will also be used for availing metro services as the ETMs will be connected with the server of Delhi Metro. Earlier, the project was supposed to be carried out by DIMTS but it couldn’t materialise due to certain disagreements over revenue-sharing process between the company and the transport corporation. It may be noted that the project was announced in 2010 but missed several deadlines.
‘The DTC board had approved hiring of consultant, UTITSL, to undertake the bid process management earlier and, in the next six months, it will do project implementation, monitoring and support. The work on the project has begun and few companies have shown their interests in this regard,’ added an official.
‘The commuters face lots of problems while purchasing bus tickets and this move will help in minimising them. We, along with the DMRC, have made all necessary arrangements for this and the project is likely to be implemented soon.
‘The project will be implemented in AC and non AC low floor buses,’ said RS Minhas, spokesperson of the DTC.
