If all goes as per plan, a landline phone subscriber will be able to carry his landline in his pocket through his mobile phone as the state run telecom service provider would be launching the much-much awaited Next Generation Network (NGN) service from December end.
The launch of NGN will enable BSNL users to use the conventional landline phone through their mobile while travelling within the home network or even outside.
“Then a BSNL subscriber will just have to download an app to regulate the functioning of his landphone installed at home. The app will connect the landline phone to his mobile, and all the calls to the landphone will automatically be transferred to the mobile phone on which the particular landline number is registered,” BSNL chairman-cum-managing director Anupam Shrivastava said.
“The things are at the final stage. We are in consultation with TRAI over some crucial points, which will be resolved very soon. We are planning to roll out the NGN service by December end,” the BSNL chief said.
Notably, NGN is a new innovation in voice service which is only available in advanced nations like
the US.
The state-run BSNL has also plans to launch 4G LTE services on 2600 MHz band in a couple of cities by the end of March. It has rolled out customer-centric initiatives such as free night calling, free roaming and providing a minimum broadband speed of 2 Mbps.
Reversing the trend, the state-run BSNL has posted an operating profit of Rs 672 crore for the financial year 2015 in administrative costs and jump in revenues. The company had posted an operating loss of Rs 691 crore in the previous fiscal.
