In its manifesto declared on Monday, it demanded to restructure science courses even if that means converting it into a four year degree. According to the manifesto, ‘The emphasis will be given to technical education and skill development.
Subjects like biotechnology, bioinformatics, electronics, genetic engineering, software reliability engineering, operational research, actuarial science, nanotechnology etc should be introduced as specialization in the Honours courses. This will help in job creation and value addition to the current Honours courses in science.’ It further added that AICTE approval for B.Tech courses are a must in DU.
‘After FYUP rollback, the educational structure has become very chaotic. Whether three or four years, courses need to be upgraded and restructured so that students can find jobs. If restructuring means four year degrees will be given, then it is acceptable. Our motive lies in welfare of students,’ said Rohit Chahal, national secretary, ABVP. During the campaigning, ABVP activists claimed to boost its achievements for the rollback of FYUP.
‘DU educational structure needs to be upgraded in order to compete with the global job market. We can’t follow the same old syllabus. We have to revise our syllabus so that students are prepared to take on the competition. FYUP aimed at same,’ said a professor in DU. Apart from restructuring science courses, new colleges in Delhi University will come up, bank accounts for all students, safe and secure campus for girls, transportation facilities for students, strengthening of extracurricular activities, demand for east campus are among the other points of focus in the ABVP manifesto.
