Delhi Police on Monday arrested notorious robber Kapil Anand, also known as ‘Topiwala Charles Sobhraj’, who, the police claim, had committed more than 100 robberies in the past three years.
Based on the complaints of truck drivers about rising number of thefts and robberies against them in West Delhi’s Mundka area, police formed two teams to keep an eye on the situation. Several truck drivers had previously reported that a man wearing a white cap, with a white Swift Dzire car used to commit such crimes, said police.
Police said that on April 10, at around 1 pm, a team found a Swift Dzire and a truck parked at an isolated stretch. On approaching the truck, a man armed with a pistol jumped out. The cops overpowered him when he tried to flee and on searching him recovered a wallet was stolen from a truck driver. The driver later identified the wallet as his own which was robbed by the ‘Topiwala’ at gun point.
“The complainant informed that he was waiting for the owner of a factory at Hiran Kudna for loading his truck when a man driving white Swift Dzire car came up to him and asked if he wanted to load his truck. The truck driver responded affirmatively and was asked to follow the car which took him to Hiran Kudna drain. The man (Kapil Anand) then stopped his car and went to the truck. He tactfully sent the helper of the truck outside and then robbed the driver at gunpoint,” said a senior police officer. During interrogation, Anand revealed that he had been running a transport business in partnership with a man since 2007.
