Notifications for poll to Bengal panchayat bodies from today

With the completion of Panchayat elections in West Bengal, the newly constituted boards of the rural bodies are set to take over the task of building rural Bengal in a more constructive way the earliest possible.
‘The newly formed boards of the rural bodies will take over the responsibilities soon. Notifications for election to the boards of Gram Panchayats (GP), Panchayat Samities (PS) and Zila Parishads (ZP) will be issued on Tuesday, 23 August and 30 August respectively,’ West Bengal panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee said here on Monday.
Elections to the GP would be held between 14 August and 19 August, PS between 30 August and 3 September and ZP between 7 September and 14 September to form the new boards in those respective bodies, Mukherjee said.
After the election process was over, the Panchayat department would organise training for the elected members in the three-tier rural bodies with training for Zilla Parishad members taking place at the State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development, Kalyani, in Nadia district. Training of the elected members at both the Gram Panchayats and Panchayat Samities would be held at the respective districts from time to time, he said.
The minister said he would meet all the DMs and ADMs in the city on 12 August to enlighten them on government’s focus on various ongoing and new projects and how they could be expedited in an effective manner maintaining total transparency.
