‘Not handing over metro security to Delhi police’

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has denied any reports of handing over the responsibility for metro security to Delhi police. CISF has reiterated that no such directive was communicated to them from any ministry or department.

Talking to Millennium Post, CISF PRO Hemender Singh said, ‘Last year in the month of October or November, there was meeting convened by Ministry of Home Affairs in which all parties were asked to maintain the present situation of their respective roles, since then there was no communication from any  concerned department.’

He further said that no such proposal was made to them as of now. Such news items are on air in the media but nothing concrete has been done in this regard. CISF is looking after the overall security of 135 metro stations across the National Capital Region (NCR) region. The security agency also guards the metro network, which runs across Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad.

Delhi police registers any crime committed inside the metro premises and also conducts the probe. Around 5,000 CISF personnel guard the stations. However, Delhi police personnel, who are deployed to investigate crimes, are few in number.

Earlier it was reported that Urban Development Ministry has recommended handing over security responsibilities of the Delhi Metro network to Delhi police. Meanwhile a senior CISF official on the condition of anonymity said that CISF is capable enough to deal with any security threat. They added that it would be difficult for Delhi police to deal with security, because of a shortage in man power. CISF has the expertise to maintain security and it can deal with any of security threat.
