North MCD to soon rent out classrooms for coaching centres

There is good news coming in for the capital’s IAS, medical and engineering aspirants. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to end the problem of lack of coaching centres in the Capital by letting out its schools as coaching institutes. This will not only ensure increase in the number of coaching institutes but will also fetch revenue for the cash-strapped Municipal Corporation.

Officials of the North MCD said that thousands of students come to Delhi for coaching and participate in competitive exams for commercial courses like Engineering, Medical, Chartered Accountancy and IAS. “The famous coaching institutes are facing great problems to admit all the students who have applied for coaching due to lack of availability of sufficient place. These 390 Municipal primary schools can be run as coaching centres due to availability of electricity, transportation and availability of sufficient place,” said a senior official on Wednesday.

As per the Corporation, these coaching centres would be permissible in the classrooms after the school hours with prior approval of the competent authority in case of schools run by the Delhi government or the local body. With this move, the Municipal Corporation can increase the source of income by letting out premises of MCD schools where only morning shifts are run.

“Through this, North Municipal Corporation can fulfill the responsibility for development of resources in favour of society and also aim at increasing the revenue for the Corporation. The classrooms are empty post school hours so this period can be utilised to ensure more revenue for the Corporation,” said an official in the Education Department.
