North MCD to introduce new parking policy to check defaulting contractors

As the number of defaulting parking contractors have come heavily on civic bodies, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation is mulling a policy to go for annual contracts and take entire fee in advance at the time of allocation of parking sites to the contractors.

There are numerous parking contractors who have not paid North MCD any amount for operating the site. It is worth noting the North MCD is still to recover Rs 6.8 crores from parking contractors. ‘The parking contractor pay the three months advance fee to get the allocation of the parking site but as soon as the parking comes in their control, they stop the payment. They also abort the efforts of the corporation to get the fee by filing litigations on frivolous issues,’ said MSA Khan, additional commissioner of North MCD.

In a recent order, Khan had ordered to make 19 parking sites free for public as the contractors were not paying the monthly fee to the corporation. The corporation will fresh tender for the sites.
The problems is not limited to North MCD, as 21 out of over 80 parking sites of South Corporation are not officially allotted to any contractor but parking mafia continue to charge money from public on such sites.

Presently, the parking sites are allocated to any parking contractor for two to three years.
