The proposed parking lot is likely to be built over an area of 3,605 square metre with the capacity of at least 500 vehicles at one time and shops as per the availability of space. The project is expected to cost over Rs 100 crore which will be borne by a private body as the North MCD, through auction, will handover ownership of the lot. Once completed, occupants of Rohini, Pitampura, Madhuban Chowk, Shiva Market and daily Metro commuters will be benefited.
As per the report, a three-storeyed parking lot will come up on the vacant land near Shiva Market complex at Pitampura village, about 200 metre away from the congested Madhuban Chowk. The civic agency, in its report, has said that it will organise an auction to sell the vacant land with minimum bid of Rs 73.8 crore. The highest bidder will be awarded ownership of land and will be allowed to construct a multi-level car parking with commercial facilities. The bidder/company can construct a 15 metre high building and if it wants to raise the height up to 20 metre, it will require permission from the civic agency.
The North MCD, announced flexibility in the increase of Floor Area Ratio (FAR) of the plot in order to allow commercial usages so they could commercialise the remaining portions. An announcement to this effect was made by the Corporation after a meeting this week. After going through the feasibility report, the civic body has decided to conduct a detailed project report (DPR). After completing, the matter was brought to the Standing Committee where it was approved by the members.
“Presently it is a vacant land where a few vehicles are being parked hither and thither. The RP cell, in April this year, brought the proposal of developing the area and decision was made to construct a car parking,” said Pravesh Wahi, Chairman of Standing Committee.
A senior official of the RP cell said the decision was taken keeping in view the parking problems in the area. “As the vehicular volume is increasing rapidly these days, majority of vehicles are being parked on key roads of the city causing bounty of problems to the commuters and others. The move will help in minimising parking problem up to a maximum extent as the residents of nearby locality and other kind of occupants could park their vehicles easily. This time we have planned to handover land ownership to private players so we could raise one time fund and could avoid problems while running the parking lot,” said an official.
