North MCD seeks Rs 100 crore-loan from its Southern counterpart

The municipal body has also demanded an additional amount of Rs 15 crore as the South MCD has not paid the maintenance cost amounting to Rs 25 crore ever since it started functioning. After trifurcation of the MCD in 2012, SDMC had based its headquarters at the Civic Centre building, which falls under the jurisdiction of the North MCD. “We want Rs 100 crore as a loan from the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, which in turn can help the North MCD come out of debt,” said Mohan Bhardwaj, Standing Committee chairman, North MCD.

The North MCD, which owns the property, had demanded rent from the South Corporation for using its premises as headquarters. The SDMC had refused to pay the rent. From electricity bills to maintenance charges – all expenses are taken care of by the North MCD.

“They have not paid the rent ever since the Civic Centre came into existence. They have also made changes in the building without our prior permission. They are yet to put in their share as tenants,” said a senior official.

As per the report, the civic agency had charged the south MCD, a rent worth Rs 75 crore for 2013-14. The North MCD has also turned down the demands of the south and east MCDs to share the revenues it earned by letting out one tower of the Civic Centre to the Income Tax Department on a 99-year lease.
