North MCD Mayor meets L-G to discuss financial issues

The Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, Ravinder Gupta, on Thursday met the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Najeeb Jung and told him that the sanitation services would soon collapse if funds are not provided to the North Corporation. He said that North MCD is not seeking any help but demanding their legitimate right and the Delhi government should stop behaving as a “money lender”. The Mayor decided to meet the L-G after the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia refused to pay heed to North <g data-gr-id="62">MCD’s</g> fund crunch.

The delegation requested the L-G to request the Delhi Chief Minister to consider the fact that sanitation workers could not be asked to come to work without paying them their due salaries.
They told the L-G that sanitation workers perform one the most primary functions in the civic bodies and it was unthinkable what the situation would be if they stop functioning. They further added that not only sanitation workers but their families are also suffering from financial crisis.

The Mayor told the L-G that they had met the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister but failed to garner any positive response from them. Gupta requested the L-G to ask the Delhi government to pay the North MCD its due share of approximately Rs 2,000 crore and to Delhi Development Authority to pay Rs 590 crore. The Mayor also said that if the Delhi government did not act fast, a situation would arise when the sanitation services and the like would collapse and the only ones to suffer because of this would be the common man.
