North Delhi Municipal Corporation has authorised its councillors to allocate Rs 25,000 to a maximum 20 Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) annually for minor repairs and maintenance works.
“Every Councillor can now allocate Rs 25,000 each, to a maximum 20 RWAs in a year for minor repair and maintenance works,” North MCD standing committee chairman Pravesh Wahi said.
The works that could be undertaken by the councillors include repair of boundary walls, grills of parks, repair of slabs over drains and cover of the storm-water drains in their areas, he said.
“The spending by councillors will be monitored by concerned junior engineers and small repair and maintenance works will be allowed to be done without floating tenders to ensure faster service delivery to the residents.
“The councillors can spend the said amount on minor works from their area development fund of Rs 25 lakh,” said a senior North MCD officer. The BJP-ruled civic body has 104 wards each represented by an elected councillor.
