A 92-year-old retired government officer along with his servant were attacked and robbed by two unidentified men in South-East Delhi’s posh Greater Kailash Part 1 area on Friday. Both of them have been admitted to AIIMS Trauma Center.
According to police, the incident took place at around 2 pm when Khairati Lal Khanna along with his servant was at his residence in N-Block. Two men knocked the door and told them that some ‘Mr Aggarwal’ had sent a bouquet for him. When Ram Chandra, the servant, opened the door, one of them overpowered him by pointing a pistol and entered the house. “The duo bolted the door from inside and overpowered Khanna too. When Khanna tried to raise an alarm, he was brutally thrashed by them. Further, the duo robbed Rs 40,000 cash from the almirah, some more cash that was kept under a pillow and jewellery worth Rs 26.5 lakh. The duo then fled the spot after locking the door from outside,” a police official privy to investigation said.
In the attack, Khanna became unconscious. Ram managed to inform Khanna’s son who runs a garment shop in Chandni Chowk area. Police received a call at around 2.30 pm and a team was rushed to the spot. The duo were immediately taken to AIIMS Trauma Center where they are being treated. Khanna’s wife lives with their daughter in Los Angeles and was in India recently.
A case under the relevant sections of the IPC has been registered. No CCTV cameras were installed outside the residence, said the official.
